Ogilvy seeks a highly driven, passionate Senior Account Executive with a background in community engagement and/or communications to join our award-winning Social Change practice. 


This is an exciting opportunity to work with a federal agency encompassing a network of risk communications, emergency management, community outreach, partnership building, community planning, and engineering experts to engage a broad array of national and local stakeholders around the issues of natural disaster mitigation, climate change adaptation, and capacity building to empower communities to drive resilience. This unique program functions on national, regional, and community levels, and is extremely dynamic with a large team and many moving parts.


The Senior Account Executive is responsible for the day-to-day program management of their client account(s). They partner with account and program leaders to deliver operational discipline, delivery excellence, and speed to market for their client(s). They should be adept at communications and/or a public relations professional able to handle a broad variety of tasks with increasing independence and sound judgment. Additionally, the Senior Account Executive will work with account management leaders to track and communicate business results and the client’s impact. They are highly organized and accountable team members, who are able to build relationships and collaborate with and draw on the expertise of Ogilvy’s vast resources and capabilities.


The person who is in this role will report to the Washington, D.C., Ogilvy office and primarily support a client (i.e., FEMA Region 9) based in Oakland, California. It is preferable that the staff member is based in or near the Oakland, California area as the Region 9 account team and client are based on the West Coast and the team primarily works West Coast business hours.


  • Key day-to-day project contact with clients, creative teams, and other agency partners  
  • Managing client objectives, expectations and timelines and communicating changes/directions to internal team members 
  • Working collaboratively with all internal team members to facilitate the process of developing effective strategies and briefs that lead to great work  
  • Influencing the efficiency and quality of work and advocating for the agency/client relationship  
  • Mobilizing and driving the integrated team towards progress and completion of all scoped deliverables 
  • Understanding staffing and scoping requirements  
  • Owning the client budget and working with the Program Director to manage costs and deliverables as well as staffing resources 
  • Owning project management/workflow system data entry and reporting 
  • Identifying potential project risks and developing contingency plans 
  • Developing and maintaining high levels of team effectiveness (trust, communication, collaboration, productivity, diversity, engagement) 
  • Understanding & respecting every department’s role in delivering great work & building relationships 
  • Researching, writing, and overseeing the development of communications campaign materials including brochures, videos, web copy, social media, toolkits, and memos 
  • Planning and executing large-scale events, including community consultations, virtual meetings, and conferences 
  • Assisting in media relations efforts and partnership outreach 
  • Participating in the agency's new business and proposal efforts, as requested by leadership 


  • Interest in and knowledge of climate change resilience and/or hazard mitigation at the local, state, or federal level 
  • Familiarity with or interest in equity-centered approaches to community engagement and program delivery 
  • Relevant understanding and/or experience working with underrepresented populations, including rural communities, Native American and tribal communities, and/or Pacific Island communities preferred 
  • 3-5 years of related, client facing industry experience managing “the making” or delivery of great work 
  • Account experience delivering programs in public relations, marketing, or communications with background in digital and social media, materials development, media relations, and partnership outreach 
  • Ability to work with and manage sub-contractors and vendor relationships 
  • Ability to think strategically about issues and message development 
  • Curious, a lifelong learner 
  • Proven consensus-building skills  
  • Proven ability to work in a collaborative and transparent environment  
  • Demonstrated capability to get things done on budget and on time; established sense of business & financial acumen  
  • An understanding of the dynamics and workings of the agency’s process as it relates to the client’s businessDemonstrable knowledge of client and agency operations and working knowledge of Ogilvy’s capabilities 
  • A good listener, someone who reads people and those in a (virtual) room well (and adapts their style and response accordingly) 
  • Accountability and calm, confident presence 
  • Knowledge or experience in local, state, or federal hazard mitigation planning preferred.  
  • Experience working with a large government account, including understanding of budgets and contractual obligations a plus 
  • Professional competency in written and oral Spanish a plus
