The role of the Sr HR Manager is to partner with all teams across five offices of Ogilvy to assist in the implementation of the talent management strategy. The Sr HR Manager will be responsible for assisting the Regional Director in performance management, development/career-pathing, training, talent reviews, and compensation planning. Candidates should have experience working as a trusted business partner with an emphasis on recruiting, training and employee relations. This position requires solid HR generalist skills, business acumen, strong internal consulting skills and leadership potential. The Sr HR Manager role is an ideal position for an experienced HR Generalist who is ready to take the next step in his or her HR career.



We are a team of four supporting an office of approximately 200 employees spread across five offices (with this role directly responsible for Washington DC) and part of a larger HR organization of approximately 50 HR professionals across North America. The team is comprised of a Regional Director, Sr HR Manager, Generalist and HR Assistant. We are true business partners supporting a senior leadership team who place a high value on the talent management function. Our work focuses on talent management, recruiting, onboarding, training, and employee relations. As a member of this regional HR team, you will be fully immersed in the business of the Washington, DC office, providing important tactical and advisory support for employees, managers, and leaders, and playing a key role in implementing our talent strategy.


- Be a trusted adviser to employees - first line for all questions related to benefits, payroll, and compensation

- Builds positive relationships with employees through regular outreach and touch points; becomes a trusted resource for counsel on a variety of HR issues

- Partner with Generalist and HR Assistant to deliver onboarding, orientation, and off-boarding for all employees across remit

- Leads the employee onboarding process, ensuring a positive and inspiring new hire experience Proactively engages with new hires to ensure their onboarding experience is effective and meaningful

- Conducts exit interviews and ensures trends and key takeaways are captured, tracked and appropriately shared with HR leaders and office leadership. May lead or collaborate with other HR team members on resulting improvements and initiatives

- Help to manage and resolve employee relations issues; Conducts effective, thorough and objective investigations; Maintains knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance

- Provides day-to-day performance management guidance to managers (coaching, counseling, career development, disciplinary actions); Works closely with management and employees to improve work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention

- Initiate and handle immigration matters for local office

- Partner with business leads to assist Director, Talent Management in determining learning and development needs- create training curriculum for compass point utilizing internal subject matter experts and/or external vendors, leverage internal training programs when appropriate

- Assist facilities team with detail for corporate calendar for office events

- Assist with corporate events- responsible for office culture including office events

- Play an active role in recruitment, talent pipelining, and local employer branding in the marketplace (e.g. develop university relationships, professional association partnerships, diversity organization partnerships etc.)

- Keeps a hand on the pulse of the office by routinely and proactively engaging with employees to sustain an ongoing understanding of office-wide morale, concerns, and important themes

- Builds and maintains effective relationships with HR partners in specialist disciplines such as L&D, Talent Acquisition, Benefits, Payroll, Compensation and HRIS

- Becomes fully fluent in and maximizes a variety of HR systems and tools

- Assists HR Director with the Affirmative Action Plan

- Serves as a backup for the other HR team members to ensure coverage during vacations or other absences, requiring cross training on, and the ability to perform co-workers’ essential responsibilities when necessary

- Other responsibilities as needed



- 6+ years of experience as an HR generalist including experience with recruiting and employee relations; Experience working in Advertising, Communications, PR, or Marketing environment a plus

- Demonstrated ability to form and maintain effective, credible relationships with employees, managers and company leadership and be seen as a go-to resource for a wide variety of HR matters

- Solid understanding of employment law and HR best practices, as well as general HR functions to include recruiting, compensation, employee relations, performance management, onboarding, and training

- Demonstrates a strong sense of ownership and urgency for job responsibilities. Has a proven ability to work on assigned tasks and projects with minimal direction or supervision

- Is experienced and comfortable with ambiguity, and can take action and be decisive even when desired information is missing

- Superior verbal and written communication skills; exercises good judgment in use of various communication channels (email, phone, in-person) and is equally effective with each channel

- Experienced, comfortable and composed with sensitive or difficult conversations around a variety of topics. Has an assertive communication style and handles conflict in a tactful manner

- Willingness and ability to work extended hours as necessary. Is a collaborative team member who readily performs tasks outside of his or her primary set of responsibilities in order to achieve team goals

- Ability to handle multiple projects with sense of humor. Is not upset by last minute and late breaking requests

- Excellent oral and written communication skills with customer service orientation

- Ability to work independently, as well as in a team environment and with remote teams

- Ability to travel as necessary. While most work is local, occasional travel may be required

- Bachelor’s degree required

- PHR or other HR certifications and education are preferred
