Overview

We are looking for a talented Director, Paid Media to join our fast-growing and dynamic team in Washington, D.C. You will be responsible for overseeing and growing all the paid media operations within Ogilvy Washington. You will lead all media planning and buying efforts, and provide strategic direction and leadership for key clients and agency stakeholders. The position reports to the MD, Social + Content, and is responsible for the day-to-day management of assigned accounts, the team, and work streams. You will also oversee reporting for clients. Beyond managing assigned accounts and supporting roles within the department, you will work on new business strategies and plans for proposals to prospective and existing clients. The ideal candidate will have 6-8+ years of strategic media planning and buying experience, and a strong working knowledge of the media space with an emphasis in digital display, search, video, mobile, and paid social. This person is high-energy, and thrives in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate industry knowledge/expertise across all media.
  • Develop strategic and integrated media plans and budgets across multiple channels.
  • Evaluate media proposals and negotiate media placements.
  • Effectively use media research tools (and make recommendations of platforms which will further enhance offerings).
  • Manage day-to-day responsibilities for assigned campaigns.
  • Engage in daily monitoring and optimization of campaigns.
  • Provide daily, weekly, and monthly reporting and analysis.
  • Build relationships with account teams as well as vendors.
  • Manage client expectations of performance and deliverables.
  • Manage day-to-day client interaction on active accounts.
  • Reconcile vendor invoices and facilitate payment for the Paid Media group.
  • Maintain and oversee client budgets.
  • Track and manage all paid media invoices by client and campaign.
  • Create insertion orders, secure media with vendors, and manage process internally.
  • Lead the team developing and executing framework of innovative paid social media plans across the group and key clients

  • Advise on comprehensive media and strategic frameworks that address client objectives and challenges
  • Lead and develop cross-discipline communication planning and drive synergy with Paid Search, Programmatic, Display, Content Syndication, etc
  • Develop strong client relationships and build trusted partnerships
  • Recommend innovative strategy and media tactics consistent with media and content briefing
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with vendors, including Google, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Snapchat, etc
  • Demonstrate ability to present strategies/plans/pitches to all level of clients
  • Proactively seek out media opportunities and/or industry news to develop a sharp and up-to-date approach to media planning, and disseminate across the team

Qualifications

  • Work experience: 6-8+ years of experience in digital media planning, including 3-5 years management experience
  • Education: min. Bachelor’s degree in Advertising or Communications
  • Large agency experience preferred (WPP agency is a plus)
  • Very strong experience in developing robust, creative, innovative and sharp paid social strategies and media plans
  • Strong understanding of digital landscape and how/where bridges are build between paid social and other channels
  • Must be extremely detail-oriented and organized
  • Have strong working knowledge of various mediums (digital, SEM, direct response, traditional, social).
  • Experience with Google AdWords and Facebook Ads required.
  • Have strong negotiation skills.
  • Demonstrate strong analytical skills and expertise in Excel, Power Point and Word.
  • Manage internal communications with creative and account teams.
  • Experience with ad servers and third-party trafficking. Experience in Sizmek a plus.
  • Significant experience executing both national and geo-targeted media buys.
  • Understanding of analytics and experience with AdOps for tagging and reporting. Google Analytics and/or Adobe Analytics experience a plus.
  • Extensive experience in writing and presenting information
  • Ability to evaluate, design and execute streamlined processes across clients and within the group
  • Ability to stimulate and motivate junior team and develop team skills and careers
  • Strong track-record of business growth and incremental scope conversions
