Ogilvy's Health & Wellness team is currently seeking an Editorial Director to join us, working on an innovative and integrated pharma account. The Editorial Director carefully edits (using standardized code to indicate how type should be set) the initial manuscript copy for good grammar, correct spelling, and consistency prior to submission to Desktop Services, and at subsequent revisions of a piece with Client corrections/revisions. This will be a freelance hire to start, with high potential of moving into a full time role in 2018.


  • In editing a project, reviews/verifies product claims regarding referenced data in copy as well as graphic representation provided by the Client and/or copywriter.
  • Incorporates all Client requirements, guidelines, codes, etc, in the initial edit.
  • Brings copy into compliance with FDA regulations.
  • Consults with the assigned copywriter, art director, and/or account executive regarding the piece/campaign at any stage, especially regarding changes to copy.
  • Maintains the Editorial Client/Product Notes for assigned Clients/Products and distributes among the department.
  • As part of the Client/Product team, attends regularly scheduled status meetings, etc, regarding the Client’s projects.
  • May proofread (using standardized code to indicate how type should be set) other projects as required by the department.
  • Must be familiar with APA guidelines and strong attention to detail.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Hires, trains, and manages department staff and freelancers; evaluates/reviews department staff on an ongoing basis.
  • Assigns Clients/Products among Editors and oversees establishment of Client/Product editorial databases.
  • Maintains quality-control departmental workflow procedures, as well as contributing to agency-wide operations/procedures.
  • Maintains departmental reference collection.


  • Bachelor's degree (B.A./B.S.) from four-year college or university; preferably chemistry, biological science, English, or pre-medicine. 
  • Minimum of 5+ years’ experience in medical/pharmaceutical copy editing, 3 to 5 years’ managerial.  Knowledge of/familiarity with FDA regulations regarding drug promotion.
