  • Overview

    Ogilvy Public Relations seeks a mid-level communications professional with specialized experience in project management, writing and creative development for public-facing initiatives to join a project team in Ogilvy’s Public & Risk Communications group. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a network of risk communications, issues management, community outreach, partnership building, and engineering experts to tackle one of the nation’s greatest hazards: flooding. Flooding is the most common and costly natural disaster in the United States. As a part of this team, you will help communities reduce their vulnerability to flooding, save lives, and protect their financial stability.

    Responsibilities

    Based in Washington, DC, this full-time position will work collaboratively with colleagues locally, FEMA Headquarters, and 10 regional offices nationwide to raise understanding of local flooding vulnerabilities and transform that knowledge into action to reduce risks at the local level. Among stakeholder audiences are Federal officials, State and local officials, community planners, emergency managers, professional groups, businesses, and local residents.

     

    For this role, responsibilities include:

    • Support strategic communications and outreach operations of a large Federal Emergency Management Agency account.
    • Engage with in-house Creative teams to concept and translate client needs into creative contract deliverables for a range of content and media: infographics, websites, printed collateral, and video.
    • Research, write, and edit case studies and best practices to document what’s working and standardize successful techniques through the development of a “playbook” used across the contract.
    • Disseminate and market products and tools across large, geographically diverse internal and client teams.
    • Apply strong project management experience to manage, balance, and track work across a wide variety of client initiatives.
    • Mentor junior staff to support greater familiarity of the contract and client priorities.
    • Make strong connections and jump in and take initiative with minimum supervision.

    Qualifications

    • 5+ years’ experience in strategic communications, including supporting multiple initiatives. Experience in an agency setting is preferred.
    • Previous Risk MAP/FEMA program experience a plus.
    • Strong writing, relationship building and creative thinking skills.
    • Communications background with a degree of comfort around content of a technical and often complex nature.
    • Proactive, problem solver, team player.
    • Proven ability to develop plans and budgets for outreach and engagement projects, manage multiple projects concurrently, and turn around projects quickly, delivering on time and on budget.
    • Excellent written and verbal communications skills are essential. 
    • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree or relevant experience a plus.
    • Willingness to travel and work on client site.
