 Ogilvy Public Relations San Francisco is seeking a communications professional to join a dynamic account team working on public affairs, sustainability, public interest and grassroots issues across the West Coast. This is an opportunity to work exclusively with a prominent national government client and create impactful work that advances regional and national sustainability and resilience campaigns.


 The Account Executive, PR and Community Affairs will work collaboratively with colleagues in San Francisco and 10 regional offices nationwide, to support communications plans in the areas of raising understanding of local flooding vulnerabilities and transforming that knowledge into action to reduce risks at the local level. Among stakeholder audiences are Federal officials, State and local officials, community planners, emergency managers, professional groups, businesses, and local residents.

As an account executive, the ideal candidate will be able to show experience and proficiency at skills such as:


  • A client-facing agency representative, including providing sound communications counsel, project tracking and client updates.


  • Has proven track record of project management; ability to set up the problem and manage projects against tight timelines in a proactive and collaborative style that works well in teams, ability to deal with ambiguous situations and competing deadlines, and prioritize quickly and efficiently


  • A strong writer and wordsmith for everything from emails to talking points to speeches. The position demands a professional who can act as the voice for a number of stakeholders and position work in terms of an audience’s priorities


  • Proficiency with media relations, including tracking, aggregating, analyzing and pitching national and local media.


  • Self-motivated and resourceful; Can follow direction and workplan, but also able to anticipate potential roadblocks and communicate in advance, think on their feet, manage up and act proactively


  • Is a strong researcher and writer, with the ability to filter through, simplify, and summarize highly technical information into easy to understand language. Proven experience taking this new language and working with creative teams to develop a creative brief and develop the right materials/communications vehicle for appropriate audiences.


  • Can plan, coordinate and execute flawless events, such as community meetings or press conferences. Has experience helping coordinate client media/presentation training and is comfortable with the basics, able to give quick input and advice about how to deal with media and community meetings, and can be a resource for on-the-ground partners.


  • Is authentic. Has capacity to build and foster relationships and support client relations/partnership management.


  • Exhibits enthusiastic personality type that can rise up and interact with a high-energy client.


  • Performs day-to-day account management work which may include: budget tracking, coordinating events, conducting research and participating in strategizing sessions.


  • 2-3 years of communications experience with emphasis on community engagement, writing and complex topics; prior agency experience strongly preferred


  • Prior knowledge of government agencies, crisis management, and/or corporate communications is a plus.


  • Exceptional writing ability with experience developing all forms of communication including op-eds, editorials, news releases, newsletters, and content for online channels.


  • Demonstrated project management skills and ability to meet deadlines without sacrificing quality.


  • Ability to manage dynamic situations and manage numerous projects simultaneously.


  • Capacity to work on multiple projects with aggressive timelines
