  • Overview

    Ogilvy USA in New York is seeking an experienced communications professional with specialized experience in project management, to join our dynamic account team leading on social change, public affairs, and grassroots issues across New York, New Jersey, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. This is an opportunity to work exclusively with a prominent national government client and create impactful work that advances regional and national disaster risk reduction, sustainability and resilience campaigns. 

    Responsibilities

    In this role, the Account Supervisor will support the team’s efforts in outreach and engagement with national, regional and local stakeholders; partnerships and coalition development with government, non-profit and subject matter experts including, floodplain managers, community planners, engineers, and environmental planners; development of messaging campaigns and translating technical information into easy to understand language to influence behavior change. Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

     

    • Performs day-to-day account management work
    • Manage and build strong client relationships with onsite support at client office location
    • Manages and execute community meetings, including: logistics coordination locations, attendees, and format in direct consultation with local jurisdictions, the States, and federal agencies
    • Supports the development and coordination of localized strategic communication plans and content related to community resilience for local, state, and Tribal governments
    • Performs research
    • Develops and manages existing and new partnerships with local influencers; consumer, nonprofit, and business organizations; and professional organizations
    • Prepares a variety of written materials including newsletter articles, community profiles, program management plans, fact sheets, toolkits, and other locally tailored outreach tools and materials
    • Identifies opportunities for more creative and comprehensive outreach and communication materials that visually describe engagement processes
    • Travels for community engagement within the states of NY, NJ, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands

    Qualifications

    • 5-7 years of communications experience with an emphasis on community engagement; prior agency experience preferred, but not required
    • Proven track record of project management; ability to manage projects against tight timelines in a proactive and collaborative style that works well in teams, ability to deal with ambiguous situations and competing deadlines, and prioritize quickly and efficiently
    • Able to plan, coordinate and execute flawless events, such as community meetings or press conferences. Has experience helping coordinate client media/presentation training and is comfortable with the basics, able to give quick input and advice about how to deal with media and community meetings, and can be a resource for on-the-ground partners
    • Self-motivated and resourceful; able to follow directions but also able to anticipate potential roadblocks and communicate in advance
    • Flexible and adaptive person who can adjust quickly to changing priorities and conditions and cope effectively with complexity and change
    • Is a strong researcher and writer, with the ability to filter through, simplify, and summarize highly technical information into easy-to-understand language
    • Proven ability to develop plans and budgets for outreach and engagement projects, manage multiple projects concurrently, and turn around projects quickly, delivering on time and on budget. 
    • Shows strong team communication and commitment; demonstrates reliability, flexibility, curiosity, most importantly good listening skills
    • Capacity to work on multiple projects with aggressive timelines
    • Familiarity with any of the following areas preferred - hazard mitigation planning, disaster risk reduction planning, sustainable development, land use planning/zoning, data analytics, Geo-spatial Information System (GIS), climate change adaptation, and resilience planning
    • Continually seeks new ways to learn and improve
