    Are you driven by improving the lives of others? Ogilvy in San Francisco is seeking an experienced communications professional to join our dynamic account team leading on social change, public affairs, and grassroots issues across the West Coast.


    This is an opportunity to work exclusively with a prominent national government client and create impactful work that advances regional and national disaster risk reduction, sustainability and resilience campaigns.


    The right candidate will posses project management and communications expertise, is a natural team player and problem solver, and has a passion for public affairs, urban planning, sustainability, resilience, and/or disaster risk reduction fields.  He/she has the ability to build solid client relationships and play a primary, independent implementation role in client work. They are a trusted partner to more senior and junior team members on the account and able to work collaboratively across the Ogilvy network.



    Support the team’s efforts in outreach and engagement with national, regional and local stakeholders; partnerships and coalition development with government, non-profit and subject matter experts including, floodplain managers, community planners, engineers, and environmental planners; development of messaging campaigns and translating technical information into easy to understand language to influence behavior change.


    • Account management: Maintain day-to-day contact with account manager, team and the client; ensure timely delivery of projects; manage specific projects that are part of a larger campaign; mentor junior staff to ensure they have a balanced workload and the information they need to complete tasks on deadline.
    • Community engagement: Work with team and clients to confirm key messages, develop materials, conduct interviews and briefings, provide on-site support and coordinate community engagement events in direct consultation with local, state, tribal and federal governments.
    • Communications: Translate technical content into accessible and compelling talking points and messaging platforms for a range of deliverables, including: community profiles, project reports, communications plans, partnership agreements, workshop summaries, client newsletter and locally tailored outreach tools and materials. Edit and provide regular feedback to junior team members. Familiar with various media: video, podcasts/radio, newsletters.
    • Client Relations: Facilitate regular meetings with client and client customers (e.g. city, state and federal government agencies). Manage a range of personalities through proactive internal communications. Manage multiple competing priorities in a rapidly changing environment. Capacity to support client in identifying and executing priorities.
    • Team collaboration: support management of client team and internal account team, capacity to manage up (e.g. anticipate account lead needs and serve as brain trust) and manage down (e.g. mentor junior staff and provide strategic feedback to help growth). Reconcile aggressive project timelines with shifting day-to-day needs of account.
    • Finance: Support maintenance of financial trackers for projects; ensure vendors are paid on a timely manner
    • Business development: Develop programming with senior account team; attend and actively participate in brainstorms; gather and organize information, as requested



    • 2-4 years’ work experience in public relations, communications, or a related field
    • Familiarity with any of the following areas preferred - hazard mitigation planning, disaster risk reduction planning, sustainable development, land use planning/zoning, data analytics, Geo-spatial Information System (GIS), climate change adaptation, and resilience planning.

    • Ability to develop and articulate strategy recommendations to client and team
    • Skilled in handling direct client contact and providing client counsel 
    • Able to plan, coordinate and execute flawless events, such as community meetings or press conferences. Has experience helping coordinate client media/presentation training and is comfortable with the basics, able to give quick input and advice about how to deal with media and community meetings, and can be a resource for on- the-ground partners.
